October came and went all too quickly, and we're getting dangerously close to the winter running season. In this month's newsletter we'll highlight the Hixon races, share the benefits Meditator Release Testing, highlight Mark Martinsen's awesome day at Surf the Murph, and introduce you to our newest coach Pat Griffith!
Wet and Slippery Hixon 50
We had a great time hosting so many awesome "trail people" at the Hixon 50. While the conditions were less than ideal, we still had a record turnout, from both runners and volunteers. Travis Harvieux (pictured above) came down to join in on the fun after winning free entry through our Grindstone contest! Keep an eye on our Facebook page for our next contest about Mike's race at Tunnel Hill.
Meditator Release Testing
Now is one of the best times to start your MRT journey with dietitian Rachel Turi
What is MRT?
This program includes a blood test, results packet, and individualized anti-inflammatory nutrition plan. MRT is the most comprehensive and effective blood test to measure your body’s immune reaction to 140 foods and 30 food chemicals. This test takes away the frustration and uncertainty in determining what foods are triggering inflammatory responses by showing you exactly what the culprits are!
Why is inflammation such a big issue?
MRT can help you take your performance to the next level, and give you an edge on your competitors. Athletes notice a substantial improvement in performance and recovery through implementation of the MRT/LEAP anti-inflammatory diet. By reducing inflammation, your body can more efficiently use its energy stores to help you perform better, faster, stronger, and longer. In addition, while inflammation is essential in muscle recovery, too much inflammation is a big problem. It will severely delay overall health, energy and performance. Reducing inflammation throughout the body will speed up the recovery process, greatly reduce soreness and put you at a much lower risk for injury. Learn more, and start your MRT journey here.
Mark Martinsen Surfs into Second
Congratulations to Mark for not only coming in second, but also for crushing his previous PR!
At 55 years young, Mark is a model of running longevity. A couple weeks ago, at the Surf the Murph 50 mile Mark reflected on just how happy he was to be able to be out doing what he loves on the trails "Recap is I really had fun as I had friends at almost every aid station, and this was a big PR which surpasses my 8:44 at Lean Horse 2 years ago. Never really had any low spots other than fleeting moments where I thought that this is a stupid way to spend a Saturday hurting like this. I think that I was just a bit out of my comfort zone all day and I kept telling myself that this hurts, but it can't get any worse. I think that because I was in pain right from the start there was no where to go but up, and I just kept trying to think positive, and how great it was to be running in such a beautiful spot, at 55 years old"
Well done Mark.
